The face weights are generally 22 ounces to 30 ounces. A higher grade pad will help a carpet to feel and perform much better. A carpet is considered to be a builder carpet when it is neutral in color on the lighter side in ounce weight and does not show traffic patterns in the early period of it s installation. If your budget is stretched thin then we recommend upgrading the pad and not the carpet.

There is no formal definition of builder s grade but it typically refers to an economical carpet that only lasts about five years under heavy traffic. Standard builder grade carpets will be between 25 45 ounces depending on the price range of the home.
