Brooklyn s the national collaborated with icelandic artist ragnar kjartansson back in 2013 on a lot of sorrow a so called durational performance where the band played their song sorrow from the high violet album live on stage in ny s moma ps1 repeatedly and continuously for six hours.

Now the band has announced a limited edition 9xlp vinyl box set collecting the performance titled a lot of sorrow.

Didn t do this in one shot but over a handful of sessions i basked in the pointless glory of hearing sorrow over and over. In june 2020 the expanded edition of high violet was released on vinyl for the first time as the 10th anniversary expanded edition. Live recording of a durational performance held at moma ps1 nyc in may 5th 2013 in which ragnar kjartansson invited the national to perform the song sorrow for six hours straight uninterrupted. This durational performance was released as a special vinyl only box set entitled a lot of sorrow by 4ad in june 2015.

Due out on june 19th the triple lp will include eight tracks never before. 9 clear label less 12 records in clear plastic sleeves presented in screen printed clear acrylic box. All proceeds from the box set will be donated to. The music is wide ranging in its moods by turns intimate and rough expansive and spare full of stark angles and atmosphere.
